TRAVELER’S NOTEPAD: Jomalig – The Golden & Pink Frontier
Jomalig is a island municipality of Quezon which is part of the Polilio Group of Islands. The island itself is the easternmost part of the province, as it literally faces the vast Pacific Ocean. The island is generally flat, Alog point which is described as the highest point of the island is only 30 meters above sea level! In terms of income class, the island municipality is in the 5th class and it’s main source of income is fishing and ‘copra’. But besides that, tourism is beginning to develop as the island boasts (not white sand beaches) Golden Sand Beaches and even Pink sand beaches during sunset.
Besides that wonderful beaches at the island, you can explore the nearby islets such as the Manlanat Islets or you can check out the two lakes of Jomalig; Bigwangan and Podan lakes.
Due to the limited electricity supply within the island, they conserve it mostly during the day and distribution starts around 5:00pm to 1:00am in the morning.
The locals also proclaim their town as the “Seafood Capital of Quezon”, due to the fact that there are numerous lobsters, crabs and fish that can be easily caught around the area. Yummy!
The main transportation within the island are motorcycles and multicabs and to reach the island itself, one must INQUIRE on PH First on their upcoming tour package there! You may board a public cargo boat from Real, Quezon (3 hours from Manila via land) to Patnanungan Island for about 5 hours and another boat transfer at Patnanungan Island bound to Jomalig for another 1 hour.
